In 1920s Pottstown, Pennsylvania, Amanda Smith started what is now the country's leading commercial pie bakery from her own kitchen table. Her deep-dish, fruit-filled pies were well known to local townspeople. Her son spotted an opportunity and started selling pies at the local YMCA, door-to-door, and later to local restaurants and grocery stores.
Today, millions of people across the United States enjoy MRS. SMITH'S® pies – synonymous with quality and homemade taste for almost a century. MRS. SMITH'S® pies have received countless awards, and continue to be one of America's favorite pies.
MRS. SMITH'S® Bakeries, Inc. was purchased by The Schwan Food Company in 2003, and is now part of the privately owned, multi-billion dollar frozen food leader.
