Q: Can I bake a Mrs. Smith's® PreBaked Pie that has thawed in the refrigerator?
A: Absolutely. Even though a PreBaked Pie has thawed in the refrigerator, you can still warm it in the oven for half the time stated in the instructions on the package. However, since our PreBaked Pies are fully baked and ready to eat once thawed, you can skip the baking step and serve them chilled.
Q: Can I bake two pies together?
A: Baking two pies together reduces the temperature of the oven, so there should be adjustments made. When baking two pies together, bake for 5-10 minutes in addition to what is stated in the regular directions on the package. You may want to cover the edges in tin foil due to the extra heat. Since ovens vary, you will want to check the pies often during the baking process.
Q: Do you offer coupons for Mrs. Smith's® products?
A: Periodically, we have product coupons inserted
into local newspapers in major distribution areas where our products are sold. Some
stores use instant coupon machines to offer manufacturer's product coupons. We suggest
you also watch your local store advertisements for special price offers.
Q: I’ve purchased a Mrs. Smith's® product from a fundraiser. Can I find this same product in stores?
A: If you've purchased a Mrs. Smith's® product from a fundraiser, this product was provided by one of our food service distributors or brokers and would not be a product available in the retail market. These products are developed and sold specifically to distributors for their customers - restaurants, hospitals, schools, etc.
Q: How come several Mrs. Smith's® products are only available at certain times of the year?
A: Most of our frozen dessert products are available throughout the year; however, some stores choose only to carry certain products which they consider “seasonal” at given times throughout the year.
Serving Suggestion: Mrs. Smith’s® Classic Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, and Coconut Custard Pies have small holes in the bottom of the pie pan to allow melted shortening to escape, to prevent the crust from becoming soggy. The finished pie should always be placed on a serving platter, not directly onto tables or any tablecloths, as a residue will leave marks.

Preparation Suggestions:
- Put flour in the bottom of the pan to avoid pie shells sticking to the bottom of your pie pan.
- As a general rule, if the pie requires baking the filling, don’t pre-bake the pie shell.
- Suggestions for baking the bottom crust.
- Preheat your oven to a slightly higher temp (25-50 degrees), also preheating the cookie sheet.
- Place the pie on the preheated cookie sheet, place onto the bottom oven rack, and bake for approximately 20 minutes.
- Reduce the temp according to the baking directions.
The initial high temperature helps the crust to brown, and reducing the temperature allows the filling to cook thoroughly before the bottom crust burns. We do suggest that you check the pie periodically, and cover the edge of the crust with aluminum foil if you see that it is necessary to avoid over browning.
