Common Questions
Q: Can I bake two pies together?
A: Baking two pies together reduces the temperature in the oven, so there should be adjustments made. When baking two pies together, bake for 5-10 minutes in addition to what is stated in the regular directions on the carton. You may want to cover the edges with foil due to the extra heat. Since ovens vary, you may want to visually check the product often during the baking process.
Q: Can I bake a frozen pie that has thawed in the refrigerator?
A: Our frozen pies are designed to bake from a frozen state; therefore we do not recommend, nor can we guarantee the quality of, baking a pie that has thawed in the refrigerator.
Q: What are the pinholes in the pie tins for?
A: The pinholes on the bottom of the tin ensure that the bottom crust gets baked evenly and thoroughly.
Q: Do you offer coupons for MRS. SMITH'S® products?
A: Periodically, we have product coupons inserted into local newspapers in major distribution areas where our products are sold. Some stores use instant coupon machines to offer manufacturer's product coupons. We suggest you also watch your local store advertisements for special price offers.
Q: What does the Date Code indicate on MRS. SMITH'S® products?
A: We do not post shelf life or expiration dates as such, but we do indicate the production date on the end flap of each product. The majority of our frozen desserts have a recommended frozen shelf life of at least 12-18 months. Frozen products, as long as they are properly stored and kept frozen solid, will generally last even longer than their suggested shelf life. All distributors of our products should use the production date code for rotation of inventory.
Q: I’ve purchased a MRS. SMITH'S® product from a fundraiser. Can I find this same product in stores?
A: If you've purchased a Mrs. Smith's® product from a fundraiser, this product was provided by one of our food service distributors or brokers and would not be a product available in the retail market. These products are developed and sold specifically to distributors for their customers - restaurants, hospitals, schools, etc.
Q: How come several MRS. SMITH'S® products are only available at certain times of the year?
A: Most of our frozen dessert products are available throughout the year; however, some stores choose only to carry certain products which they consider “seasonal” at given times throughout the year.
