There is good reason that Mrs. Smith’s® pies taste homemade: The company was born in Amanda Smith’s own kitchen in the early twentieth century. Her deep-dish, fruit-filled pies were so well loved by friends and neighbors in Pottstown, Pennsylvania that her son agreed to sell them at the local YMCA, door-to-door, and later to local restaurants and grocery stores.
We still make our bakery products with care and quality ingredients just like Amanda Smith. The pies have won countless awards and continue to be among America’s favorite pies. It’s fitting that in 2003, a family company devoted to quality purchased Mrs. Smith’s Bakeries. The Schwan Food Company is a privately held frozen food leader based in Marshall, Minnesota.
